As I said it is only in central region, so I think it is voluntary if you want this card. It is totally free. I dont know anybody in Ghana who has one, but all of them lives in Accra. Ask a local Ghanaian or at least a person who is a Ghanaian;)

If all people get an ID-card then the administration knows how many people who have one. You can not force people to have this card yet. Several children are still dying in a young age. At the age of 16 the changes of surviving is so high that it is likely tthey make it plus children dont pay taxes. This is still on an experimental basis since Rwanda still scaries some people which I totally understand.

why does it have to have id cards to know how many people it has? and it wont be a proper representation as it is voluntary as to whether or not the people have it also they arent taking the children into account so i dont think this can be seen as truely representative of their peoples.

I am very familiar with the corruption in Ghana, unforunately. But the cards can be a helpful tool in fighting corruption. The money spent gives info to the local distrits and regions of how many ppl are here right now (16 yrs and above) But when the local administration knows about it's people it can start a better strategy helping its population. So I feel like it is good money spent. Both sides are able to use the collected information to keep the local administration on the right track.

when their own governments stop the fraud and corruption then possibley the people will follow. My concern is that there are people dying from starvation throughout africa and they are spending money on id cards when the money could be put to better use. Also does everyone have to have one of these cards or is it optional do you know?

Actually I mentioned Rwanda in my previous post. If ppl wanna cheat they'll b able to cheat but any messurings taking to limit te possibily of fraud and corruption that does not limit the liberty of the people shall be taking. Why so much concern, so far only Central Region sends out the ID-cards. None of my friends down there have heard any bad words about the cards, ppl are more confused why they need it but t government has not the best record in getting information out and it's election-year

You say the national id card has been introduced to other countries any ideas which ones?. i do appreciate that it shouldnt be necessary for ethnic origins to be mentioned on an id card as that could be a double edged sword. But can you be sure what is actually recorded on these cards. Yes i appreciate there is a lot of fraud but even with id cards people will come up with another form of fraud to counteract it ...

Several countries had tried this before, the problem was that ppl used those cards to find out to which tribe you belonged, e.g. in Rwanda where an ID card could tell if u were a Hutu or a Tutsi. Thats why the IDcards in Ghana has no references to your tribal or ethical status. Every country needs to know app how many inhabitants it has eg, tax and preventing fraud. If u know how many ppl living in area X it is easier to explore possible fraud and corruption which is a huge problem in Ghana.

but the point is being missed here...noone in our country wants the national id card we are fighting against it my genetics prove that my origins are from one of these groups from the gold coast!. I carry a blood mutation which is traceable to tribes such as the dogon tribe and inparticular to a place called burkina faso. But i just wondered is this the first country to have taken on the national id card...ok i appreciate the singing in one language bit thanks for putting me straight on that.
